Middle Eastern American Population and Area of Residence:

 

The Middle Eastern American population is considered to be one of the largest, oldest and most diverse communities in the metro Detroit area.  The Middle Eastern community, which works and resides in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties, is distinguished for its purchasing power, education, social, business, political and economic involvement. 

 

Economic Contribution and Income:

 

*Middle Eastern Americans own more than 10,000 businesses in the tri-county area.

 

*Total contribution of Middle Eastern American economic activity supports between 99,494 and 141,541 jobs in the tri-county southeastern Michigan Region.

 

*The Middle Eastern American contribution represents $3.7 billion in Michigan, $2.4 billion in Washington DC and $9 billion in wage and salary earnings nationwide. This includes jobs held by the Arab Americans and those jobs that result from the associated business and consumer spending.

 

*The median income of Middle Eastern American families is $52,300 in Michigan, $59,700 in Washington DC and $54,400 nationwide which is 4.6% higher than the average American family.

* 85% of Middle Eastern Americans have at least a high school diploma.

* 41.7% of Middle Eastern Americans have a Bachelor’s degree.

* 72% of people of Arab descent in the United States work as managers or professionals, while the same is true for only 34 percent of the general US population

Several groups of the Middle Eastern American Community have started their own newspapers. Each caters to the group sharing the same ethnicity.

MEA Radio completes the mission of MEA TV as the only leading media serving the Middle Eastern American community, MEA Radio broadcasts on 690AM WNZK during radio prime time hours 5 pm to 7pm Monday through Friday. MEA Radio covers Southeast Michigan, Northeast Ohio and Western Ontario.

Based in Southfield, Michigan, MEA TV is the only 24-hour network channel broadcasting in the United States.

 

MEA TV has a full range of programs catering to the various groups of the Middle Eastern American community. MEA TV tackles the issues and concerns related to its community (Immigration, Real Estate, Medical and Law). Our cameras are at every event held by or for the community.

 

MEA TV considers the youth of the community a major responsibility. This is why we have created a wide range of programs hosted by the youth themselves who feel free to raise their issues and concerns through their media. The different youth organizations have united under MEA TV’s umbrella to host shows about Parent -Child Understanding, College and Campus life, and Teenage problems and concerns. MEA’s concern is all relations between young Middle Eastern Americans and all American youth in general.
